Re: is there a way to force DNS64 synthesis for specific domains that have native AAAA records?

While on Lua level it's not ergonomic, tags are supported in these APIs, so you can do a tiny change, e.g.: lua: policy-script: | assert(C.kr_rule_local_data_ins( kres.rrset(kres.str2dname('security.ubuntu.com.'), kres.type.AAAA, nil, C.KR_RULE_TTL_DEFAULT), nil, policy.get_tagset({'myTag'}), C.KR_RULE_OPTS_DEFAULT ) == 0) and then you just need to add myTag to the views where you want to apply this rule (in YAML). You can read more about tags and views in the docs, around page https://www.knot-resolver.cz/documentation/latest/config-policy-new.html

policy-loader endless loop when using more than one rpz

by Frederik Himpe

Hello, I'm using this config.yaml with Knot Resolver 6 (on Debian 13): workers: auto network: listen: - interface: 127.0.0.1@53 logging: level: info options: violators-workarounds: true cache: size-max: 100M prefetch: expiring: true dnssec: log-bogus: true local-data: rpz: - file: /var/lib/rpz/urlhaus.abuse.ch.rpz - file: /var/lib/rpz/threatfox.abuse.ch.rpz lua: script: | policy.add(policy.suffix(policy.DENY, {todname('use-application-dns.net.')})) policy.add(policy.suffix(policy.PASS, policy.todnames({ 'uribl.com', 'zen.spamhaus.org', 'dbl.spamhaus.org', 'list.dnswl.org', 'sa-trusted.bondedsender.org', 'sa-accredit.habeas.com', 'bl.score.senderscore.com', 'dnsbl-1.uceprotect.net', 'dnsbl-2.uceprotect.net', 'dnsbl-3.uceprotect.net' }))) policy.add(policy.all(policy.TLS_FORWARD({ {'9.9.9.9', hostname='dns.quad9.net', ca_file='/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt' }, {'149.112.112.112', hostname='dns.quad9.net', ca_file='/etc/ssl/certs/ca-certificates.crt' }, }))) This results in this endless loop in the logs: Apr 10 11:56:49 supervisord[56300]: captured stdio output from policy-loader[56777] (stderr): [system] config 'policy-loader.conf' (workdir '/run/knot-resolver'): No such file or directory Apr 10 11:56:49 supervisord[56300]: success: policy-loader entered RUNNING state, process has stayed up for > than 0 seconds (startsecs) Apr 10 11:56:49 supervisord[56300]: exited: policy-loader (exit status 1; not expected) Apr 10 11:56:49 supervisord[56300]: spawned: 'policy-loader' with pid 56778 Apr 10 11:56:49 supervisord[56300]: captured stdio output from policy-loader[56778] (stderr): [system] config 'policy-loader.conf' (workdir '/run/knot-resolver'): No such file or directory Apr 10 11:56:49 supervisord[56300]: success: policy-loader entered RUNNING state, process has stayed up for > than 0 seconds (startsecs) Apr 10 11:56:50 supervisord[56300]: exited: policy-loader (exit status 1; not expected) When using only one rpz file, thus removing the whole line - file: /var/lib/rpz/threatfox.abuse.ch.rpz it works fine. Knot Resolver 6.20: persistent SERVFAIL after temporary authority unreachability

by m.maslowski12＠gmail.com

Hi, I reported an issue in Knot Resolver 6.20 that is causing some problems for me. After a short outage of authoritative servers, the resolver returns SERVFAIL + EDE 22 (No Reachable Authority) and keeps this state for a few minutes even after connectivity is restored. Also, after switching to TCP, it does not go back to UDP. You can find the full description and steps to reproduce here: → https://gitlab.nic.cz/knot/knot-resolver/-/issues/949 Has anyone else seen this issue ? Do you have any better workaround than clearing the cache ?

log-bogus does not work in 6.2.0 ?

by Jiri Masek

Hi, I am testing new version of knot-resolver - 6.2.0 and it seem that log-bogus option is not working. When I set: logging: level: info dnssec: # Log DNSSEC failures log-bogus: true And issue query to www.dnssec-failed.org it does not log error. On old recursor where I have 6.0.15 it does log: Mar 16 14:37:02 resolver1 kresd[3453]: [dnssec] validation failure: dnssec-failed.org. DNSKEY Is there somethink I missed? Or it is a bug? If I get it, only thing changed should be this (in 6.0.17): /logging/dnssec-bogus -> /dnssec/log-bogus Regards, Jiri Masek

Ingesting RPZs

by Giles Crawford

Hi All, Just wondering how you guys are ingesting RPZ feeds into Knot Resolver. While Knot doesn't natively support zone transfers at this time, it can import the zone files, and then kick the zone if the file changes, so that's what I'm doing. I'm doing the zone transfers (10 zones from ioc2rpz) using BIND for now, and then writing the zone files to storage that Knot Resolver can read. I know that dns4eu uses Knot Resolver for their protective recursor service, so I'd be curious to know how they're doing this. Could be that they're using a custom version of Knot that's zone transfer capable. For context, I run Knot Resolver behind dnsdist, and they're complimentary, offering huge flexibility. Would be great to see rpz-passthru support in the BIND format too (forgive me if that's already possible) so that a traditional white-list-first tiered approach can be followed. (Super impressed with Knot resolver, so hats off to all at CZ). Cheers, GC

SERVFAIL with Internal Resolver

by Darren Rambaud

Hi knot-resolver-users -- I am looking to install a DNS resolver for my local network and `knot-resolver` seemed to fit the bill. Network is setup like this: VLAN 1 Gateway IP 10.0.0.5 Search Domain Name internal.example.com <http://internal.example.com/> VLAN 2 Gateway IP 10.0.1.1 Search Domain Name research.internal.example.com <http://research.example.com/> ... At the moment, `knot-resolver` deployed to a single server (10.0.1.6) with this configuration: ``` forward: - options: authoritative: true dnssec: false servers: - 10.0.0.5 subtree: - internal.example.com - options: authoritative: true dnssec: false servers: - 10.0.1.1 subtree: - research.internal.example.com logging: level: info network: listen: - freebind: false interface: - 127.0.0.1 - 10.0.1.6 kind: dns port: 53 workers: 1 ``` On another machine (10.0.0.100), public queries resolve correctly: ``` # dig @10.0.1.6 knot-resolver.cz ; <<>> DiG 9.20.17 <<>> @10.0.2.6 knot-resolver.cz ; (1 server found) ;; global options: +cmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 34301 ;; flags: qr rd ra ad; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 1 ;; OPT PSEUDOSECTION: ; EDNS: version: 0, flags:; udp: 1232 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;knot-resolver.cz. Or is there a misconfiguration on my end with `knot-resolver`? Darren
