The zone purge operation requires the force mode:
"knotc -f zone-purge a.8.1.a.8.0.0.0.0.d.1.4.1.0.0.2.ip6.arpa"

I indeed used the -f flag, as instructed by knotc.
This allowed me to add the last 2 entries in the zone, but the problem
reappeared soon after that.
