Dear Dr Paulos
What issues do you have with backup and restore of PostgreSQL?
IMHO this should not be a part of the FRED documentation (beside some references or
links, of
course), because there are many tutorials about making snapshots or replication of
PostgreSQL databases.
This is not strictly a FRED issue and moreover, it's transparent to FRED.
The issue I raised on backup and restore on FRED is not restricted to PostgreSQL, I am
thinking of the whole FRED system where the PostgreSQL database is only one part.
If you consider the task of building a duplicate or backup server or registry site for
the FRED
registry, there are many more issues that one needs to take care of rather than just the
database. We have done this for the first time last month on the Malawi .mw ccTLD
registry
with an experienced FRED registrar and it took more than a few days to get it right.
In this section of the documentation you could also include replication of a FRED
registry
instance..
Does this address your query ?

Paulos

Hello
I'm just wondering what FRED-specific issues you had to face which are
"non-standard"
sysadmin/devops operations.
I mean that from my perspective FRED doesn't differ that much from other software
which needs to
have it's data repositories backed up, synchronised in optional slaves, etc.
Were there any FRED-specific issues you had to address which don't apply to making
backups and
slaves in general?
Best regards
Piotr
